Case Study
Valente Stone: a Shopify theme that lets carved marble carry the room
Valente Stone has carved natural stone since 1998, so the storefront had to make a single marble basin feel like the heirloom it is, not just another product card in a grid.
The brief
Valente Stone sells weighty, handcrafted pieces, marble sinks, fireplace mantels, console tables, dining tables and bathtubs, where the stone's veining and craftsmanship are the entire pitch. A standard Shopify catalog flattens that. Small thumbnails hide the grain, and shoppers spending on a statement basin need to trust the material before they ever read a price.
- Each sink and mantel is one-of-a-kind, so generic uniform product cards undersell the natural veining that justifies the price
- The range spans six distinct stone categories that all needed to feel like one cohesive 'quarry to masterpiece' collection
- The Est. 1998 heritage and 200+ signature designs had to read as trust signals, not just decorative copy
What I built
Gencer Karakaya built Valente Stone a fully custom Shopify theme tuned for large-format stone photography. Liquid sections render generous edge-to-edge imagery so the marble veining stays visible at full detail, and the six collections (Marble Sinks, Fireplace Mantels, Console Tables, Marble Tables, Bathtubs and All Products) share one consistent gallery and product layout. Heritage cues, the 1998 founding and 200+ signature designs, are woven in as structured trust blocks rather than afterthoughts.
- Custom Liquid collection and product templates that prioritise large hero imagery so the natural grain of each marble piece reads clearly
- A unified navigation and gallery system tying the six stone categories into one coherent catalog experience
- Heritage and social-proof modules (Est. 1998, signature design count, five-star reviews) built as reusable theme sections
- Responsive layouts and optimised stone imagery so heavy product photos stay sharp without dragging Core Web Vitals down
FAQ
Why does a marble sink shop need a custom Shopify theme instead of a stock one?
Stock themes use small uniform product cards that hide marble veining, the exact detail Valente Stone sells on. A custom theme lets each one-of-a-kind sink, mantel or bathtub be shown at full scale so shoppers can judge the natural stone before they commit.
How was the storefront kept fast despite heavy, high-resolution stone photography?
The theme serves responsive, appropriately sized images and lazy-loads gallery assets, so large marble photos render sharply on the relevant device without forcing the whole catalog page to download full-resolution files up front.
How do the six product categories stay cohesive?
Sinks, mantels, console tables, dining tables, bathtubs and the full catalog share one Liquid template system and navigation pattern, so the 'quarry to masterpiece' story reads consistently no matter which collection a visitor lands on.
