Domoro Marble: a Shopify storefront worthy of hand-carved stone

Domoro Marble carves travertine and Calacatta Viola into fluted console sinks, bathtubs, and fireplace mantels, so the storefront had to make heavy, handmade stone feel as considered online as it does in a showroom.

The brief

Domoro has carved natural stone since 1998, with over 200 signature designs ranging from a $1,350 powder-room floating basin to $6,100 statement pieces. The catalog is unusually nuanced: the same fluted sink ships on a black metal, brass, or oak stand, each shifting the price and the mood. A standard theme flattens that into a confusing variant dropdown and washes out the veining that justifies the cost.

  • One sink model can span $1,760 to $2,450 depending on stand and backsplash, so variants needed to read as design choices, not buried SKUs
  • Travertine and Calacatta Viola veining is the entire value proposition and had to survive compression and load on slower connections
  • A high-ticket, trade-leaning audience of designers and homeowners expects showroom-grade presentation before they commit to $2,000-plus stone

What I built

Gencer Karakaya built Domoro a fully custom Shopify theme in Liquid, structured around how people actually shop for stone: by the piece, then by the stand and finish. Product templates lead with large, zoomable veining imagery and surface the black metal, brass, and oak stand options as visual swatches that update price and gallery in step, instead of a flat variant menu.

  • Custom Liquid product templates where stand and finish variants render as image swatches that swap the gallery and price in real time
  • Responsive, art-directed imagery pipeline so Carrara, travertine, and Viola veining stays sharp from powder-room basins to the full bathtub range without bloating load time
  • Collection architecture split by piece (sinks, bathtubs, mantels, consoles) with filtering tuned for a 200-plus design catalog
  • Trade and bespoke-enquiry paths woven into product and contact pages for designers specifying custom stone

FAQ

How does the storefront handle one sink being sold on different stands?

Each fluted sink uses Shopify variants for the black metal, brass, and oak-with-backsplash options, but the custom theme renders them as image swatches. Selecting a stand updates the price, gallery, and availability instantly, so a $1,760 to $2,450 range reads as a clear design decision.

Why build a custom theme instead of using a stock marble theme?

Domoro's catalog of 200-plus designs with stand, finish, and backsplash permutations does not fit a generic template. A bespoke Liquid build let the variant logic, collection filtering, and veining-first imagery match how high-end stone is actually specified and bought.

How is the heavy product photography kept fast?

Veining is the selling point, so images cannot be sacrificed. The build uses responsive, properly sized art direction and lazy loading so Calacatta and travertine detail stays sharp on product pages while keeping initial load light for shoppers on mobile.
