Case Study
Tek Cabinet: a Shopify store built for a deep RTA cabinet catalog
Tek Cabinets sells ready-to-assemble kitchen cabinetry in the Shaker Gray finish, from sink and corner bases to lazy susans and spice pull-outs, to homeowners, builders, and interior designers.
The brief
Cabinetry is one of the hardest catalogs to merchandise on Shopify. A single kitchen pulls from dozens of base, wall, corner, and sink units that all look alike at a glance and differ only by width, configuration, and hinge side. Tek Cabinets needed a store where a homeowner, a builder, and a designer could each navigate that depth without abandoning their cart in confusion.
- Dozens of near-identical RTA SKUs (standard base, sink base, blind base, lazy susan, drawer stacks) had to stay scannable, not overwhelming
- Three distinct audiences (homeowners, builders, interior designers) shop the same catalog with very different intent and pace
- Buyers want to verify the Shaker Gray finish and build quality before committing to a full kitchen order
What I built
Gencer Karakaya built Tek Cabinets a fully custom Shopify theme structured around how cabinets are actually specced. Collections separate base, wall, corner, and specialty units, with Best Sellers surfacing the highest-volume widths first. Product pages spell out configuration and dimensions clearly, the $55 sample door is positioned as a low-risk first step, and a Book a Designer consultation flow routes serious projects to guided help.
- Custom Liquid collection and product templates that keep specialty units (spice pull-outs, microwave bases, lazy susans, farm sink bases) organized and filterable by type
- Sample door and touch-up kit merchandised as a deliberate first purchase, letting buyers confirm the Shaker Gray finish before ordering a whole kitchen
- Book a Designer consultation flow wired into the storefront so builders and interior designers can move from browsing to guided specs
- Bilingual English and Spanish storefront with multiple payment and digital wallet options at checkout
FAQ
How do you keep a large RTA cabinet catalog usable on Shopify?
By mapping collections to how kitchens are actually planned: base, wall, corner, sink, and specialty units kept separate, with consistent dimension and configuration labeling on every product page so shoppers can match widths and hinge sides without guesswork.
Why feature a sample door so prominently on the storefront?
Cabinetry is a high-commitment purchase. Surfacing the $55 sample door as an easy first step lets a homeowner confirm the Shaker Gray finish and build quality in their own kitchen before placing a full multi-cabinet order, which reduces hesitation and returns.
Is the Tek Cabinets store built on a custom Shopify theme?
Yes. Gencer Karakaya developed a custom Shopify theme in Liquid rather than using an off-the-shelf template, so the catalog structure, product pages, and the Book a Designer consultation flow fit how cabinets are sold to homeowners, builders, and designers.
