VRDSOCKS: a pack-first storefront for bamboo socks

VRDSOCKS sells eco bamboo socks by the multipack, so the storefront had to make length, pattern, and pack size effortless to compare before checkout.

The brief

VRDSOCKS does not sell single socks, it sells 1, 3, 5, 6, and 8 packs split across men's patterns (argyle, honeycomb, striped) and women's lengths (no-show, ankle, quarter, mid-calf). The challenge was helping shoppers pick the right length and pack size quickly while keeping the "Eco Bamboo Socks Since 1980" heritage tone and surfacing the moisture-wicking, odorless bamboo rayon story without clutter.

  • Pack quantities (1/3/5 for men, 6/8 for women) and lengths needed to be obvious at a glance, not buried in variant dropdowns
  • Two distinct buyers, men shopping by pattern and color, women shopping by sock length, sharing one catalog
  • Communicating bamboo rayon's moisture-wicking and odorless benefits without burying the 20% off and free US shipping hooks

What I built

Gencer Karakaya built a custom Shopify theme that treats pack size as a first-class merchandising signal. Length and pattern collections each get their own gendered entry points, product pages expose pack-count and color as visual swatches rather than text menus, and the bamboo benefit copy sits beside the price so the eco story and the offer compete for attention in the right order.

  • Custom Liquid product templates that render pack size (1/3/5/6/8) and color as tappable swatches, with per-variant imagery so a 5-pack reads differently from a single
  • Length-based collection navigation for women (no-show, ankle, quarter, mid-calf) and pattern/color filtering for men, built on Shopify collection and tag structures
  • Promo and trust bar wiring for the 20% sale, free US shipping, 30-day money-back returns, and Klarna pay-later, kept persistent without slowing the page
  • Heritage 'Since 1980' brand styling and bamboo rayon benefit blocks (moisture-wicking, odorless) integrated into the theme rather than bolted on as apps

FAQ

Why build pack size into the storefront design instead of using standard variant dropdowns?

VRDSOCKS sells almost entirely in multipacks, so pack count is the main buying decision. Surfacing 1, 3, 5, 6, and 8 packs as visible swatches lets shoppers compare value instantly instead of clicking through a hidden dropdown, which suits a catalog where the same sock is sold at several quantities.

How does the theme serve both the men's and women's bamboo sock ranges?

Men shop primarily by pattern and color (argyle, honeycomb, striped, in shades like Ocean Grey and Camel Khaki) while women shop by length. The custom theme gives each audience its own collection navigation and filtering on a single Shopify catalog, so neither path feels like an afterthought.

Is this a custom Shopify theme or an off-the-shelf one?

It is a custom theme built in Liquid by Gencer Karakaya. The pack-first product layout, length and pattern collection structure, and the heritage 'Since 1980' bamboo branding are all coded into the theme rather than assembled from generic sock-store templates and apps.
