Case Study
Matmazel: a Shopify storefront made for designer handbags
Matmazel sells stylish, Turkish-made women's handbags, from crossbody and shoulder styles to coordinated bag-and-wallet sets, and needed a Shopify theme that made every silhouette feel as considered as the leather.
The brief
Matmazel's catalog spans shoulder bags, crossbody styles, hand-held pieces, backpacks, and makeup pouches, refreshed each season with spring picks, summer party bags, and holiday edits. The hard part was presenting that breadth without flattening it, while surfacing the "avantajlı setler" bag-and-wallet bundles (with their 26-39% savings) and the over-1500-TL free shipping threshold in a way Turkish shoppers actually notice and act on.
- Many overlapping bag categories (shoulder, crossbody, hand-held, backpack, pouch) that needed clear, browsable structure without endless scrolling
- Bundle sets pairing a bag with a matching wallet at promotional prices that had to read as a single, appealing offer rather than two stray products
- Heavy product photography that risked slow loads on mobile, where most Turkish handbag shoppers browse
What I built
Gencer built a fully custom Shopify theme around Matmazel's collection-led merchandising. Seasonal edits (spring, summer party, daily elegance, holiday) became curated collection blocks on the home page, while the "Kendinizi şımartın" new-season message anchored the hero. Bundle sets were modeled so a bag-and-wallet pair shows its combined price and percentage saving in one card, and the 1500-TL free-shipping and 25% discount cues were wired into product and cart templates in Turkish.
- Collection-driven home page with seasonal edit blocks and a clean category structure across shoulder, crossbody, hand-held, backpack, and pouch ranges
- Custom bundle-set presentation showing the combined bag-plus-wallet price and savings percentage as a single offer
- Responsive, image-led product pages with lazy loading and tuned image sizes so heavy bag photography stays fast on mobile
- Turkish-first UI with free-shipping threshold, discount badges, and set savings surfaced consistently from listing to cart
FAQ
How are the bag-and-wallet bundle sets handled on the Shopify theme?
Each set is modeled so the matching bag and wallet display as one offer, with the combined price and the savings percentage (the 26-39% range Matmazel promotes) shown together in the product card and on the product page, rather than as two separate items.
Was the theme custom built or a marketplace template?
It is a fully custom Shopify theme developed by Gencer Karakaya, built in Liquid around Matmazel's seasonal collection merchandising and bundle pricing, not a generic off-the-shelf template adapted after the fact.
How does the build handle Matmazel's heavy product photography?
Handbag photography carries the brand, so product pages use responsive image sizing and lazy loading, keeping the rich imagery sharp while protecting load speed on the mobile devices most Turkish shoppers browse from.
